How Did You Get Into Golf?
My dad introduced me to golf when I was in elementary school. My dad loves golf and was introduced to the game by his dad. One of the best memories of golf with my dad is going out to Fort Sam Houston golf course here in San Antonio. My grandfather was a Captain in the Army and is buried at Fort Sam Houston. From one of the holes on the back 9, we can see his gravesite from the fairway. My dad will look over and say that Pa Pa is watching us play golf right now. It’s great.
What Are You Doing in Golf and Why?
I have a golf blog, Front9Back9.com, which I started about five years ago. I love writing about golf and interacting with people about golf. I wouldn’t exactly call it a business but it grows every year and maybe one day I will be able to call it one. I do it more for fun at this point in my life but would like to grow into something awesome in the future.
Favorite #GolfChat Topics?
I just like talking golf so all the topics interest me. But if I have to pick one, I like talking about golf rules and etiquette on #GolfChat the most.
Favorite Golf Quote?
If you are on a golf course during and storm and are afraid of lightning, hold up a 1-iron. Not even God can hit a 1-iron.
— Lee Trevino
Favorite Golf Destination and Why?
I don’t really have a favorite golf destination. If I had to pick, I’d like to go play Pebble Beach and Bandon Dunes. Have not been to either one of them yet but will get there one day.
How Do You View the State of the Game of Golf?
I think golf is strong. I typically play at a high end resort here in San Antonio and it always seems to be busy so I see lots of different people playing golf. I think the most critical component of golf right now is hooking the younger people on the game now. I think golf needs to be grown from the local level. Sure, there are several big national golf organizaitons that do their part to grow the game, but I think they only do so much. They might be able to help get the young people to the golf course but the local courses and instructors have to do their part to keep them hooked.
Who Are Your Favorite #GolfChatters and Why?
I have many favorite #GolfChatters. I’ve been doing this every Tuesday night for 4-5 months now I think.
@CitizenCage
@AmyMcTobin
@OnePuttBlunder
@Spin_47
@GolfBloggerCom
@ConnectGolf
@Regripped
And the list goes on and on and on…. Thank you #GolfChatters to making this an awesome and engaging hour!
Favorite Golfers and Why?
Tiger Woods by far.
Tiger Woods to me is my dad’s Jack Nicklaus and Greg Norman. I was hooked on golf before Tiger burst on the scene but I loved watching it grow to the point it is today. He has done so much to grow this game. |
