This week our #GolfChat Questions will be a surprise. Invite golf enthusiasts to show up at 5pm PST on Tuesday, Oct. 20 to join the #GolfChat conversation.
Last week I apparently forget to send out the #GolfChat newsletter so this week, you get two for the price of one.
Real Name: Tate
Location: Visalia, CA
Not picky (is that bad or good?), at home it tends to be wine to go with dinner and GolfChat. I enjoy a good mixed beverage when out and if it’s a foo-foo drink then so be it. Sometimes a man just needs a Pina.
Xmas break of my freshman year of high school is the first time I touched a club. My aunt sensing my boredom and pent up energy and not wanting to strangle me, decided to take me to the course down the hill from our house.
http://golfeatoncanyongc.com/
I played everyday all day over the break and then everyday after school. When tryouts for spring sports came, I went out for baseball. The coach insisted that freshman could only play on their own team regardless of ability. Stupid I thought, and tried out for the golf team. The golf coach played the best players and by the end of the season I had earned a varsity letter. I have been addicted to golf since that time.
Nothing professionally, I have another business. I do work with a few youths whom just love the game and/or are on teams where the “coach” is just a glorified van driver/chaperone. I learned how a team should be run when one of my teammates returned after his first year at Oklahoma State Univ and passed on what he had learned.
Favorite topics are the ones that pit old school decorum and values against the inevitable change and ideas of youth. The passion for the game is evident regardless of people’s positions on the topics.
“So I Got That Goin’ For Me, Which is Nice” — Carl
“Why don’t you hit the second one first?” — my friend typically after I drop/retee and stripe the second ball — thanks pal
Flying- the British Isles, love links golf
Driving- we have some great courses close by on the Central Cal coast. La Purisima, which if in a different locale could be a top 100 course. Hunter Ranch in the Paso Robles wine country. Morro Bay, my personal fav, based upon the ocean views and muni by the sea atmosphere. There are roughly a dozen other courses in the region of varying quality, difficulty and cost. The best part is the lack of typical vacation crowds.
Solid for those of us whom are players. Most of the desperate cries for growth are either developers and/or manufacturers. They wont admit it, but many have overcommitted and if the growth slows they stand to lose substantially. (How’s this for a hot button topic?)
All those with a passion for the game (PC answer)
Zeb of course (kissup answer)
People with a sense of humor and that share pics of their local courses that they play.
The Big3, no wait, the Fantastic4, no wait, what about Inbee and Lydia and Lexi, lets make it the Magnificent7, no wait….

Real Name: Todd Marsh
Location: Syracuse, New York
Bloody Mary’s or Martini’s unless it is really hot out then it is Yuengling.
As a kid I was always with my Father. He started me playing a few holes when I was 4, then give me a dollar and I would run back to the clubhouse and get a soda. By the age of 8 all I wanted to do was play golf.
My father turned 89 this August, he plays everyday unless there is snow on the ground or it isn’t raining. Shoots below his age every round, though from the senior tees.
This year I started Todd Marsh Fitness and earned my TPI fitness certification. I train local golfers and want to take golf performance training to the internet by offering an e-course. There are some excellent golf fitness professionals offering services on the internet, but I think they are either to technical or to generic. I want to produce a program that is simple to understand, can be adapted to each person’s limitations, and updated frequently unlike programs that are bought on DVDs. I want to help people improve their mobility, not only for golf, but for everyday life.
Oh there are so many…slow play, the media wanting new rivalries every other week, footgolf, 12-hole courses to name a few.
I have three. “Hit the shot you know you can hit, not the one you think you should.” Dr. Bob Rotella
“Golf is the closet game to the game we call life. You get bad breaks from good shots; you get good breaks from bad shots; but you have to play the ball where it lies” Bobby Jones
“Golf is not a game of good shots. It’s a game of bad shots” Ben Hogan
I haven’t found that course yet, but I haven’t played too many of the great courses. I will play anywhere from manicured masterpieces to pastures. It is all about the people you are with and the shot making for me. Although if a course has more than 2 blind shots on it, I will never suggest going back.
I’m not going to say it is in bad shape. Courses need to be more strict with speed of play. But that said, most people have no problem watching a football game. Today we started at 12:50 just before kick-off and our foursome played 18 and was in the bar in time to watch the last 2-minutes of that game.
We need more junior programs, that include some golf but also incorporate movement, fun fitness, etiquette, and respect into the program.
First I like everyone that participates in #GolfChat. Love to hear everyone’s view. Since you asked me who people should follow I would say these people for various reasons and in no particular order: @MarkKagaoan @JustinRayGC @citizencage @captdave69 @courtgolf @OracleRio @h2cgolf @texasgolfergirl @TwoInchesShort @NoLayingUp @AshleyKMayo @TheGolferBabe @JohnGrahamGolf @practicalgolf @DawnMannix @EllingYelling @Amanda_Balionis @TheGolfChick @Megangolfpro @RPFitnessLAB @Front9Back9
I’m pretty loyal, I mean I am still a Bills & Mets fan, so I like Tiger. He has raised the level of competition at the pro level and no one will come close to his 26% win percentage or his beating the field’s average score for 89 consecutive rounds. I would like to see him play better, as well as be a better person. I like to watch DJ and Adam Scott’s swings. I will always root for Rickie Fowler, Steve Stricker, or Matt Kucher.

Well for the most part these days it’s as ol’ Hank Jr. would sing “corn bread and ice tea has took the place of pills and ninety-proof” but an occasional glass of Cannonau di Sardegna Riserva during #golfchat is always in order.
When I was growing up one of our neighbors was a golf pro at local course (Westland Golf Course I do believe it was called.) Just about when I was 18-19 yrs old he ask if I would be interesting in learning. Up until then I would just hang at the course selling golf balls, etc. So he gave me a set of clubs, taught me the basics and I muddled through a yr or two. Gave it up when I join the service and my dad died. Played off and on through the yrs after that but nothing really to mention until about 4/5 yrs ago.
Consider myself a senior amateur golfer. Trying my best to lower my handicap in order to play in some future Golf Association of Michigan championships. Will play in 2016 on the MPSGA mini tour to gain tourney experience.
I also wrote a golf e-book called ‘Smart golf for everyday golfers’ which is for sale on Amazon.
As to why it’s because i love golf, I wish I would have had stronger push when I was younger but I now have time to do in golf what I didn’t have time for in my earlier yrs.
Lately I’ve been really gung-Ho about amateur golfing and Senior Champions Tour.
Being I’m in my 60’s and trying to re-start a amateur golf career I love this quote from Michael Breed “It’s never too late to be great.”
Marquette Golf Club / Greywalls course
Here in Michigan golf seems to be doing pretty good. As in other places/states I can’t speak if it’s going good or not. I know a lot has been made over slow play but I personally have not actually experience any. So basically I would say around me golf is doing wonderful.
@jcgolferVA @12DegreeOffTee @Todd_fitness @cencalhack @h2cgolf @SuzyfromFlorida @29sonski @MarkKagaoan @Avgjoegolf and a whole slew of others! All are great interacting tweeters!
Bernhard Langer the man can play golf as a senior.
Tom Watson again for 66 yrs old he can still play a mean round of golf.

Last week was our most active #GolfChat yet with more than 893 tweets using #GolfChat. Think we can get to a 1,000?
Instead of having someone promote #GolfChat, I was hoping that you . . . Yes YOU would invite 10 people to join us for #GolfChat today. They could be #GolfChatters already or they could be newbies. Either way, let’s make sure we remind everyone about #GolfChat.

I’m on an Old Fashioned kick lately, but I’ll go with an Angel’s Envy, with one ice cube.
My Dad got me clubs for my 6th birthday. It wasn’t until I was 7 and Fred.Couples won the Masters that I really got into it. He took me to the Jackson Park par 3 course and I was hooked immediately.
I want golf to be more approachable and affordable for everyone. Golf has a long, ugly history of exclusion and just general bad behavior. I want everyone to know what I feel when I play instead of just seeing some stuffy white guys in dumb clothes.
Snootery and elitism. I also have some mean rants about architecture.
Hit it hard, go find it and hit it hard again. -Arnold Palmer
Bandon is unmatched for my money. Besides amazing golf in an amazing setting, everything at the resort oozes authenticity. It’s such a great place.
Good. It’s struggling some, but that’s to be expected after a huge recession. It’ll come around, and as long as we quit building unsustainable courses
Golf blogger always has good takes, as does ReGripped. I also have a soft spot for Shut Face Golf and his filthy mouth.
Ryan Moore’s style and attitude is everything right with the game. Andres Gonzalez is in the same vein, for me. They don’t take themselves too seriously and you can tell that they love what they do.

Give me a Jack and Ginger, light but buzzy. (this means something I just know it)
My dad played golf when he was a teenager put down the clubs in his 20s and picked them back up again when I became a young sprout and he got me into the game. Sadly I followed the same trajectory and after playing as a teen and in high school and college, I have picked up the game again my 30s. But I am back at it hardcore and I have my dad to thank!
Fewer courses but make the remaining ones more interesting. Golf shouldn’t be just a straight ahead plodding 5.5 hour affair. It should move along with holes that move you inside. Too many courses, too few beauties.
Golf course trips. I am an avid researcher and even if I haven’t gone to Bandon yet or Scotland or even Myrtle Beach, I still want to hear about courses who is playing what, who is getting deals etc. Get me to the other side of the fence, is the grass really greener over there?
The woods are full of long drivers.
– Harvey Penick
I am just starting to stretch my golf legs but my favorite course in the last few years is Rustic Canyon here in SoCal. Each hole is unique with greens that are more like ocean waves than putting surfaces. Some of the most fun I have had on a course has been at Rustic.
When I was growing up and playing golf, you could go out and play courses for not a lot of dough and not a lot of time. Now, weekends at the worst beater track will cost you $40 and the round will take 5+ hours. The equipment is great and pro tournaments are all over the country but the experience of actually playing golf at a muni is not like it was when I was growing up. Not sure what the answer is but its not fun right now.
There are so many but off the top of my head:

It starts and ends with Fred Couples. My boyhood hero, posters on the wall, the whole nine yards. Other than Fred, my new favorite is Jordan Spieth and I can’t wait to see what he does in the years to come! Can’t forget the ladies, I am a huge LPGA fan and my favorite has to be Annika along with today’s players like Danielle Kang and Sadena Parks.

First of all, I appreciate that this is the first question! Ha! As far as an answer, it depends on the day/season and time of day…always prefer a good New Zealand or Australian Sauvignon Blanc or if cocktail time a Bombay Sapphire/Tonic (always with extra limes) or if beer, Pacifico with lime, Bloody Mary’s in the morning preferably fully garnished to include #bacon. It all depends but #rake #rake #rake
My ex-husband introduced the game to me on our honeymoon in Maui. Bought my first set of clubs at Target. I still play with the same putter today, although a Wilson set, I named him Ralph.
I am working for the best golf course management company, KemperSports. It’s family owned and it feels like home. I get to travel and work with some of the most fun and innovative people in the business and brainstorm new ideas on driving revenue at all types of golf courses. It’s a hoot. I’m not sure I am changing the world by any means but I am trying to make it in a work hard-play hard place and positively promote the game of golf! I’m also on the board for the California Golf Course Owners Association #GolfAdvocate

“It’s not about how good you play, it’s about how fast you play.” – AMEN
This is tough to answer. Chambers Bay is a favorite but destination wise I might have to say Palm Desert, CA. the scenery is beautiful and the variety of resort style courses are plentiful. Love Desert Willow Golf Resort!
I wish there was a magic bullet… I think seeing younger players on tour succeed such as Jordan Spieth does the game a lot of good. Showing golfers having fun versus being quiet and reserved (like we currently see on TV) would help some too. I think overall, the industry could create a stronger social aspect versus the heavy promoting of competition and having to hold a handicap would make room for an increase in participation. Plus throw in some adult beverages and music on occasion to kick it up a notch (yet not interfering with the die-hard competitive players.)
@ConnectGolf @ZebWelborn @Dimples_CA @SocialPutts @AmyMccTobin @golfbloggercom @harroldgolf
They all make me laugh! The banter makes it fun!
Sorry, I probably missed some more too! #Cheers
Adam Scott (Of course- why not??)
Jordan Spieth (So good for the game!)
Phil Mickelson (Go Devils!)
Jason Day (Love the Aussies!)
… just to name a few…
